Product safety is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Toxicities of vitamins and minerals have been researched at length, and USANA has considered all available information when formulating its nutritional products.

Most vitamins have low toxicities, and for many no toxicity has ever been observed. Some fat-soluble vitamins can be toxic at high doses, but even when typical dietary intakes are considered, the amounts of vitamins and minerals in USANA supplements – when used as directed – do not come close to harmful levels.

Chronic intakes of vitamins and minerals at levels exceeding the LOAEL (Lowest Observed Adverse Effect Level) can cause health problems, but the amounts of vitamins and minerals found in USANA’s products have been formulated to remain below these levels. USANA products are designed to enhance health, not be detrimental to it.

Supplements brand USANA Health Sciences Inc. (Salt Lake City, UT) has been granted FDA drug-establishment registration, allowing the company to manufacture over-the-counter drugs and, the company says, raising standards “well above what is required of a dietary supplement manufacturer.”

The company manufactures more than 90% of its products in house, including all of its tableted nutritional supplements.

“Few companies voluntarily submit themselves to increased scrutiny, but since we operate in 24 countries, including Australia, where dietary supplements are highly regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), our base manufacturing standards are extremely high,” said the company’s CEO, Dave Wentz.

Taking USANA products alone will not help you lose your weight. It is still suggested to lower your calorific intake and have some moderate exercise partnered with USANA’s Reset program for best results. What’s good about USANA’s Nutrimeal is it supplies the nutrients your body need during which you are cutting your diet to achieve your desired weight. The raw ingredients that go into USANA products come from a variety of sources. Some are derived from plants (our vitamin E, for example, is derived from soy) while others are produced synthetically. Some are derived from natural sources but have been further modified by synthetic steps. Others are derived from fermentation processes.

Natural versus synthetic is just one of the criteria that USANA uses to select the raw ingredients that go into its products. Other factors taken into account are potency, purity, safety, stability, and reliability of supply.

All factors being equal, we will select naturally derived materials over synthetically derived ones. But often times, all factors are not equal. We use vitamin and mineral compounds in the chemical form – be it “natural” or “synthetic” – proven to be effectively absorbed and utilized by the body, and that are safe, pure, and free of any contaminants.

There is a common misconception that “natural” vitamins and minerals are extracted from plants in their pure form, making them superior to “synthetic” vitamins and minerals which are made in a laboratory. This is often a misleading distinction.

First, it is not possible to extract pure vitamins from plants without considerable and significant processing that may include harsh chemical extraction solvents. Next, the biological activity of a compound has nothing to do with its source and is more determined by its chemical structure. In other words, it typically makes little difference whether the chemical originates from a leafy plant or is synthesized – it is the same compound, regardless.

Some vitamin and antioxidant compounds can be efficiently synthesized in laboratories to produce products that are identical in chemical form to those found in nature and are extremely pure and equally safe (and often much less expensive than their “natural” counterparts). In addition, some synthetic vitamins are preferentially absorbed over compounds provided by food sources.

One good example is folic acid, which is more easily absorbed than folate from food sources. Folates in food are typically large protein-bound molecules and must be hydrolyzed or deconjugated before absorption and transport into the cell.

USANA claims nothing about curing these diseases, but it certainly helps, supports, and promotes our important body functions like immune system, metabolism, etc. that eventually helps us to fight diseases naturally.

USANA CellSentials (and some of its optimizers) DON’T have the “no approved therapeutic claims” label. They somehow got FDA approval to NOT have that label. This is a great indicator that any product without this label are proven to be effective to treat the condition they promise to address.
